To meet the expectations of the iPhone generation, corporate Travel & Expense (T&E) systems need to offer a new wave of optimised mobile applications, says KDS.

Following a recent strengthening of KDS's mobile application development program, 95% of the KDS User Group want mobile access to travel bookings.

The KDS User Group includes travel and procurement managers from multi-national corporations who are responsible for thousands of business travellers.  Collectively, the User Group's purchasing power exceeds €2 billion.

According to a recent survey of the KDS User Group, 90% of whom use their mobile phones daily for business purposes, there is a huge demand for better mobile access to T&E systems:

  • 95% of respondents want the ability to access information about business trips via mobile, such as booking references, addresses and phone numbers
  • Of these, 87% want to access GPS positioning for appointment locations
  • 89% of respondents want mobile access to travel information and also the ability to search for and amend bookings
  • The most popular options for which mobile users would search would be flights or trains (89%), hotels (88%) and car hire (87%)
  • 80% would like to submit expense claims via a mobile device during a business trip, highlighting the attractions of integrating travel and expense in a single system
KDS chief executive officer Yves Weisselberger says that products like the iPhone and BlackBerry have raised the bar in terms of user expectations, and while the company's solutions are already accessible on the iPhone, it is working to introduce fully optimised applications for this and other smartphone platforms.
