Juniper says that the value of data on corporate mobile handsets and the need to protect it will boost the number of corporate devices using security software to 77.7 million by 2014, even though the anticipated flood of malware that was expected to hit mobile devices has not materialised.
Europe will dominate the market for mobile security, due to its thriving smartphone market, followed by the US, China and South East Asia.
"Improvements to the underlying security of the mobile operating system, shorter replacement cycles and concerted efforts by the mobile industry to avoid the problems seen in the PC world have so far kept the malware threat to the mobile device at bay," says Anthony Cox, senior analyst at Juniper Research.
However, the report notes that the increasing value of information held on the mobile device will be a significant factor in driving the uptake of security in the corporate mobile handset market, where mobile device protection levels will rise from 5.6% in 2008 to 18.6% in 2014.
Juniper also says that mobile Augmented Reality app downloads will rise from less than one million in 2009 to more than 400 million a year by 2014, as apps stores and AR-enabled smartphones surge.
Total annual revenues from AR-enabled apps is expected to reach $372 million in 2014, up from less than $2 million in 2010.
Location-based search apps will account for the majority of all AR downloads over the next five years. By 2014, games - the second most successful category in terms of downloads - will account for nearly 30% of all downloads.
However, Juniper's report also notes that while AR enterprise apps are unlikely to launch before 2012 due to technological constraints, and will subsequently account for a small minority of downloads, they will be able to command a very high subscription price.
The report also suggests that an increasing proportion of vendors would emulate Samsung and begin to preload AR browsers onto handsets.
