fabulis, launched at the start of this year as a network for gay men in New York, has raised $625,000 in seed capital to establish a web presence and launch a location-aware social network for iPhone.
fabulis aims to become "the network that connects gay men with great experiences down the block and around the world." In addition to its New York headquarters the network has already set up development operations in Pune, India, and Deinze, Belgium. Its online launch is planned for the northern hemisphere springtime.
Participants in the initial financing include Jason Goldberg, founder and CEO of fabulis; the Washington Post Company; and a number of angel and social media investors.
Goldberg said of the financing: "We’re one step closer to fulfilling our long-term vision of being the lifestyle brand that gay men around the world rely on to help them celebrate life." Like other location-based social networks, fabulis will help its users to discover and share where to go, what to do and who to meet.
