Come back from the future with DarkOrbit
DarkOrbit comes to smartphones
DarkOrbit, a location-based game for GPS mobile phones, challenges you to find geocached virtual artefacts in real geographical locations and beam your treasures up to your spaceship.

The game is an iPhone 3G/3GS app developed by Bigpoint.com, a provider of browser-based online games, and Orbster GmbH, which offers location-based games for smartphones using the GPS Mission game platform.

Players who have the GPS Mission Pro app can continue to play their virtual games in the real world with the DarkOrbit mobile add-on. The game uses geocaching to assign virtual goods to well-known locations in various cities, such as the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Times Square in New York and Big Ben in London. The location of a cached item is shown on the cell phone's GPS Mission map.

The storyline is that the players have been transported back in time through a wormhole to the year 2009. They are in a spaceship orbiting the Earth and have to collect stranded goods from Earth.

Under the name DarkOrbit Ground Forces, the pilot project will be launched in real locations in Germany, France, Turkey, Poland, the Netherlands, the USA and Great Britain.
